ABOUT US

30 Years of providing services to the people and businesses of South Hams and beyond.

George and Mary started the practice in 1993 on returning to Devon and the South Hams from a two and a half year stint in Cornwall, where George worked for Unigate’s Arlington Motor Company, initially as Finance director and then as Director General Manager; whilst Mary, with two year old Orla in tow, continued her work as the Public Relations officer for the World Parrot Trust.

George and Mary combined their professional expertise and experience, George as a Chartered Secretary and Accountant and Mary’s Marketing and Public Relations at an international level for the Republic of Ireland’s Semi-State body, Shannon Development Company, promoting the airport and the region throughout German-speaking Europe.

George, with support from long standing friends, began to build a client base from those who needed both accountancy and taxation services, as well as allied activities, such as bookkeeping, payroll and VAT. With George’s background in retail motor, high fashion retail, manufacturing, IT consultancy and Legal services, this gave the practice a broad reach when attracting clients, as well as the diversity maintaining intellectual interest at all times.

Mary found her skills led to the UK P.R. brief for the Federation of Zoos, the overarching charitable body for Zoological and Botanical Gardens and Aquaria in Britain and Ireland. This in turn led to her becoming the national director for five years, involving work in the UK, Europe and most continents. On returning to Devon, she took up a similar role as administrator for the Small Farms Association, which involved assisting farmers at both a local and regional level with Lobbying government and RPA schemes. In this capacity she served as chair of Devon’s Farming and Food Board and now sits as a director of DR a CIC entity that specialises in providing advice to enable rural communities to identify funding and administer programmes such as the EU funding (CAP) available through DEFRA.

The practice serves predominantly SME’s. Some are sole traders, whilst others are unincorporated partnership, Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP’s) and others Private Limited Companies, both of a trading nature and structured for property management.

Recognising that in the pipeline they would, on behalf of their existing and new clients, need to cope with the effects of BREXIT, Making Tax Digital (MTD), enhanced Anti Money Laundering Regulation Compliance (AMLRC), General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) enhancements and additional Cyber security.

These subjects will be given review time, both on the practice’s website and  in its newsletter, which will be available through the website, as well as electronically by email or the Royal Mail’s postal service.

So, 30 years on and still going strong and two year old Orla is now 32.
